Anthony J. Russo is a partner with the firm and heads the firm's Appellate Department.

In recognition of his achievements as an appellate lawyer, The Florida Bar designated Mr. Russo as a Board Certified Appellate Lawyer in 2002. Mr. Russo's appellate experience extends through several areas of insurance practice. Notable cases include successful challenges to overly-intrusive bad-faith discovery orders and premature bad-faith actions.

A substantial part of Mr. Russo's appellate experience has involved insurance coverage issues.

Mr. Russo's clients have frequently requested his expertise in the preparation of amicus briefs submitted to the Florida Supreme Court and Florida's District Courts of Appeal. Finally, Mr. Russo has presented a wide range of liability defense appeals including motor vehicle accidents, vendor liability for liquor sales, nursing home liability, premises liability, employer liability and civil rights violations, among others.

Mr. Russo graduated from Stetson University College of Law, with honors, in 1985. While at Stetson, he served on the Editorial Board of the Stetson Law Review. Upon graduation, he served as a judicial clerk at the Florida Second District Court of Appeal for two years. He then practiced law as a civil litigator for several years in St. Petersburg, Florida before joining Butler Pappas in 1992.

Mr. Russo is a member of The Florida Bar and is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute. He is rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Russo is a native of Pennsylvania and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1978.
