Jim is one of the founding partners in the firm. Jim has been licensed to practice law in Florida since 1974. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1971 and received his law degree from Florida State University in 1974. He was born in Plant City, Florida on March 15, 1949.

Jim has been Board Certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a Marital and Family Lawyer since 1985. Additionally, he is certified as a family law arbitrator by the Supreme Court. Jim served on active duty in the United States Air Force from 1975 through 1979 as a JAG officer and was in the reserves for an additional ten years. Consequently, he has particular expertise in representing clients who are in the military or are dependents of a service member. He has been a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 1992.

Jim has lectured on representing military clients in dissolution of marriage proceedings repeatedly, most recently at the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers’ annual symposium in 2000. He is active in the Hillsborough County Bar, the Florida Bar and American Bar Associations. Jim was chair of the Hillsborough County Bar Association’s Family Law Section in 1991 and 1992, and has been an active member of the military law committee of the Florida Bar since 1980. Jim has been identified as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” since 1997 by the Woodward/White lawyer rating.

Jim’s practice areas include Family Law, Divorce, Child Custody, Mediation and Arbitration, and Personal Injury.

Jim has received an "AV" rating by Martindale-Hubble, the oldest and most recognized evaluator of attorneys and law firms. A small percentage of lawyers achieve this rating, which is the highest rating possible.
