Appellate Practice
In every civil case, there is a winner and a loser. If the losing party believes an error has been made in the trial proceedings, that party may appeal the decision to a higher court. The winning party will need to appear in the appeal to argue in favor of the decision in the trial court. Both parties should be represented by experienced appellate counsel to file brief and motions. Additionally, appellate practitioners assist trial counsel by advising them on how to avoid reversible error and conversely, how to preserve a trial error for appellate review. An effective appellate practitioner needs delving research skills, persuasive writing ability, and convincing advocacy techniques. The head of Davis & Harmon's appellate and law department, Valeria Hendricks, has these skills. In addition to her 13-year service at Florida's Second District Court of Appeal, she is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in appellate practice and has been recognized by her peers as one of Florida’s Superlawyers and Legal Elite.
